On October 30th, the Bloody Beetroots’ newest incarnation Death Crew 77, came through to melt some heads off at the Shrine Auditorium for HARD Haunted Mansion. Anyone there that didn’t know of the Bloody Beetroots prior to the event (highly doubt that) witnessed an unruly mob of drug-infused youth, clawing and pushing to get closer to the front while trying to slip past the tight security. Little would the security know, the real mayhem was just about to start as the ruthless Death Crew 77 took the stage.
The setlist jumped between the Death Crew brand of heavy-metal-punk-electro in “Cornelius” and their signature “Domino,” to the clean electro-house of “Fucked From Above 1985.” And of course, what would a Beetroots show be without a few drops of “Warp” in its various forms. Though it would have been easy for them to let the mixing boards take over, it was really interesting to see them add new flavor to some of their classic bangers with their new instrumentation and some spine-shattering drum-solos. Their remarkable ability to self-mash-up and their flawless transitions didn’t allow for a moment of monotony.
The Bloody Beetroots & DC77 proved that electronic music is no longer something exclusively created for ease of dance, but can also fuel a fist pumping riot almost indiscernible from a Metallica crowd. Anyone who missed this show, sporting slogans such as “the Bloody Beetroots were SO last year” needs to realize what’s up .. these beetroots are ripe for the pickin’.
Rusko shows Los Angeles how to move. Rusko’s live performance at Audiotistic ’10 made me a believer of dupstep and couldn’t miss out on his return visit to LA. We were just amazed how Rusko can maintain high octane energy from start to finish with no errors and at the same time showing us his fancy dance moves. Despite the crowds’ varied costume appearances, the crowd became one mass of waving arms with each throbbing baseline and killer goodies. Rusko got everyone at HARD rowdy rowdy and was the perfect opener for The Bloody Beetroots & Death Crew 77! Rusko definitely doing big thangs, be on the lookout as he’s rumored to be producing a few tracks for Britney Spear’s upcoming album!
We were really looking forward for some Halloween madness from Ed Banger’s mystery man, Mr. Oizo. So we were pretty bummed when we discovered through his tweet about his unfortunate cancellation at HARD due to visa issues but a surprise set by Diplo and some of the Mad Decent family was a great last minute solution! Diplo held down the main stage crowd, playing everything from new Mumbai Science to some “Teach Me How to Dougie”. Mad Decent performance for sure!
BUSY P, WTF! Right when Busy P took the stage, he got the night started right for the crowd and even entertained everyone with his Jack Skellinton costume. The head honcho of Ed Banger definitely blew things up with some old time favorites and some new banging tracks!
Highlights from the event were hard to determine as there were so many explosive performances from the likes of Busy P, Brodinski, Diplo, Rusko, and many others. Watching Tommy Lee fill in on drums for the Bloody Beetroots encore was completely unexpected. All in all, another successful event by HARD as they retreated back to their resting place, the Shrine Auditorium. Impressive production of lights & lcds, top-notch djs, and great crowd!
