On a chilly Tuesday night in LA, under the overpass of Sunset Blvd, folks braced the cold and arrived at the Echoplex venue to attend the one year anniversary for Check Yo Ponytail 2. With an all star line-up including Harvard Bass, Franki Chan, Boys Noize, and even a surprise guest appearance by Switch of Major Lazer, we knew it was going to be a bonanza of a party!

Doors opened around nine and the crowd was few and sparse, as was typical to any event in LA. As Franki Chan opened the night with some great House beats, we were pleasantly surprised by the live visuals, credit to Demonbabies. The multitude of green red lasers and multicolored spot lights were enough to provide some balance to Franki Chan’s upbeat sounds. As we threw back a few shots and were puffing a cig on the patio on this frosty night, we heard the loud deep bass hits pulsing through the outer doors. As we quickly made our way back into the dark 1 story venue, we realized the room had quickly become filled with people bouncing to the sweet sounds of Harvard Bass. With a shirt that clearly states “Harvard Bass, over everything,” this 21 yr old, definitely had some steeze and was pumping out that great authentic house beat winding it up with favorites, such as “The Funky One.” As one attendee stated ” Harvard Bass played his monster TECHYES and moved right into Hugo Moya’s MOVE! Classic set by the San Diego native.” (credit to )

As we made our way backstage, we realized the printed name on the dressing room door to Boys Noize had “+ Switch” in handwritten words. Before we knew it, Switch jumped on stage and began smashing hits and getting the crowd into a frenzy, with people chanting out “Major Lazer!”

At this point the front half of the venue was filled to capacity all the way past the sound/visual stage, it was a packed house. Franki Chan even came back on stage to fill all the thirsty peeps up front with some Cham-pag-nee. We were doused in some of the overfilled cups and loved every minute of it! Be careful of our gear, Franki!

Switch played an amazing set, it was all smiles and hugs, you could feel the love and the party just got more crazy through the night as the main event, Boys Noize hit the stage and was spinning a very 90’s house inspired set, it was cray. The night wasn’t complete until Boys Noize performed some signature crowd favorites, which sent the crowd wild with the audience holding up signs, even an attendee fist pumping a Panda head (shout out to Party Panda)! Boys Noize wasn’t messing with any Seratos here, this was pure CDJ’s and hitting those mixer effects, I miss non-laptop DJ’s. As the champagne bottles littered the DJ table, groupies getting more tipsy backstage, and the confetti has all been dropped, we had to say goodbye to Echoplex, this was one Check Yo Ponytail event that was surely legend, wait for it.. dary. What was your favorite song Boys Noize dropped? We’d love to hear from you.
Shout out to our boy DJ Dan Sena, who was in attendance as well.
