Electronic dance music or otherwise known as EDM has become an undeniable presence in popular music culture, whether it’s through the internet, radio, television, iTunes or at your favorite nightclub, it has finally gotten its much deserved recognition in recent weeks. With XS Las Vegas resident Skrillex winning three Grammy awards and landing the cover of Billboard Magazine along with Diplo & A-Trak, it is no wonder why a lot of the music industry’s top artists are spicing up their top hits with electro-dance flavors. As long as electronic dance music continues to win the hearts of popular culture, XS Nightclub in Las Vegas will keep bringing the top DJ/Producers to entertain the world’s party capital.

Born as Adam Richard Wiles, Calvin Harris has conquered all of Europe with his gold-selling and #1 album such as I Created Disco and Ready For The Weekend and now has the won the minds and hearts of America in 2011, resulting in world domination with his musical brilliance. In the past year, Mr. Harris has given us the infectious-hands-in-the-air dance floor monster track “Bounce” featuring Kelis and his recent collaboration with Rihanna “We Found Love” which is the pop track and dance floor anthem of 2011. He has been no doubt responsible for EDM’s mainstream popularity and was even listed as one of the top dance music producers by Rolling Stone magazine. Calvin Harris made his way out to Sin City this past Saturday, February 11th to perform in front of his biggest fans at XS Nightclub.

We arrived to nightclub early and were pleasantly surprised with a massive crowd waiting to get in, which was a good sign of what was going to be an epic night with Calvin Harris. As soon as we entered, we were 100% correct as the alcohol was at a constant flow and was packed to the brim as anticipated. After we made it through the massively crowded venue to get near the stage, Calvin Harris was due to take the stage and was about to warp everyone into a dancing frenzy. Since we attended XS Nightclub multiple times (Previous Event Reviews) we were not fazed by the massive turnout and conditions one bit!

The electronic-dance wiz instantly took hold of the crowd when he assaulted everyone with the fan favorite “Awooga” mashed up with Simian Mobile/Justice’s “We Are Your Friends” vocals and got everyone in full-out rage mode. Right after he dropped that first track, we knew exactly what was in store for us for the rest of the set – musical mayhem. Calvin ripped it up for about two hours, spinning everything such as: Steve Angello’s “Knas” mashed with Dirty South’s “I’m Coming Home,” to Steve Aoki’s “Turbulence” which all deemed t be crowd pleasers. Calvin also played tracks that any diehard fan would expect, his own collective singles such as: “You Use To Hold Me,” “Flashback,” and of course “Bounce.” It was obvious that Calvin Harris’s energy was returned to the crowd which went completely crazy over his performance.

Calvin kept the energy level at a maximum but before we knew it, his performance was on its last legs and has been nothing but amazing. Looking back at the night, the crowd’s reaction, confetti, the venue’s capacity, constant flow of expensive bottles, champagne sparklers, celebrities and the overall atmosphere…Calvin Harris still wasn’t enough for some as they continued to dance into the early morning with DJ Warren Peace closing out the event. After seeing Calvin Harris numerous times, he continues to exceed our expectations with yet another astonishing performance. A true sign of musical progression and Calvin Harris always keeps us on our toes with every performance.

We have stated this before in a previous review and we’ll do it again simply because it is clearly evident: “XS Nightclub consistently brings the biggest names in the industry to the world’s party capital and they DO have the recipe for live musical success on lock.” EDM continues to sell out iconic venues (such as XS Nightclub) around the world. One thing that is certainly for sure is that this is a new amazing era for EDM and its not stopping.
